World Top 10 September 2014

Kandi: The Electric Car Of The People?

Models - A Different Dimension

The Leaf, BMW i3 and the ever-improving BYD Qin (ninth consecutive record), all conquered new sales records, with two cars outside of the Top 10 also deserving mention, the Zotye E20 blew away its previous record (780 before vs 1.621 last month), while the Renault Zoe barely missed a new sales record (1.358 in June '13 vs 1.356 in Sept. '14).

Looking to the models ranking, we can see two new Dimensions appearing:

China is Rising

The BYD Qin in #6 and Zotye E20 in #7.

Looking at the YTD ranking, the BYD Qin is doing wonders, having climbed one position to #8, and don't forget that in #12 we have the Chery QQ3 EV and in #13 there's another rising star, the Zotye E20...

The numbers needed to reach the Top positions are increasing

Last month, the #5 (BMW i3) best selling car sold 2.152 units comparing this with what happened twelve months ago, the #5 then (Volvo V60 Plug-In) had sold 877 units...

Questions for October

1 - Will Kandi continue to amaze everyone?

2 - Who will improve their sales records?

3 - Can Kandi reach #4 in the models ranking?...

4 - ...And reach Toyota in the manufacturers ranking?

  1. Jose, based on Toyota's official numbers, the Prius Plug-in is the fourth place, with 16,650 units sold between January and September 2014. Also, the right figure for PiP sales in September is 1,451units, about double what you are reporting.

  2. Model S sales for CYTD through September 2014 were 21,821 units, based on Tesla's 3Q financial report (7,785 sold in 3Q 2014), your estimate was closed but it is lower.

  3. Jose, please update the Kandi numbers here as those are very clearly overstated. We now know from the company's filings with the US SEC that they sold approx 7,000 units YTD through end of September vs your tables showing approx 16,000 units.

Unfortunately, Q3 was quite a bad performance for Kandi with their sales falling to under 2,000 units from over 4,000 units sold in Q2.

Kandi probably needs to raise more money to fund its money-losing car share operations. My hunch is that your data may be victim of the unscrupulous stock promoters who have been trying to inflate data to help the company experience less dilution.
