Ireland August 2017

Image result for Hyundai Ioniq Electric in Ireland

The End of an Era

The seasonal Irish EV market is growing steadily, with YTD sales up 26%, to 750 units, with the EV share now at over 0.6%, a new record.

We are witnessing historic times in this market, as the local Golden Standard, the Nissan Leaf, has been overrun by the Hyundai Ioniq Electric (229 vs 221), with the Korean registering 16 units last month, against only 6 Nissan

It seems the five times (2011/12/14/15/16) winner Nissan Leaf has no chance to repeat the win in 2017. Maybe we will see it recover in 2018, thanks to the revised Leaf?

A lot of newcomers have joined in the Irish market, from Toyota, to Tesla (At last, officially represented), to Mercedes, making this a much more options-rich market.

Looking at the manufacturers ranking, Hyundai is now in the leadership, with 29% share, followed by Nissan (28%) is growing, while BMW is a comfortable Third, with 18% share, far ahead of the Fourth Placed, Renault (5%).
